PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome to the 2019/2020 School Year:

We are excited to start a new school year at Wood Ranch Elementary. Wood Ranch is committed to providing a quality education. Our hope is to inspire lifelong learners where all members of our school community value each other.

Again this school year we are able to offer before-school campus supervision beginning at 7:30 a.m. on the large playground. You are welcome to drop off your child anytime after 7:30 a.m., and please remember that the tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. Kindergartners can be dropped off as early as 7:45 a.m. in the Kinder Yard. We hope this will help ease the morning drive through and traffic coming into the parking lot.

Please remember there is to be NO PARKING, LEAVING YOUR VEHICLE UNATTENDED OR BLOCKING THE DROP OFF LANE between the hours of 7:30 and 8:15 am and 2:00 and 2:30 pm. There is no drop-off along the red curb both in the parking lot and on Circle Knoll drive; the Simi Police will ticket for this. Please be cautious when driving around our school and in the parking lot. We want to keep all children and pedestrians safe. Also, when parking in our surrounding neighborhoods please do not block driveways and mailboxes and remember to always lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in the car.

This school year we will be continuing with Trash Free Tuesdays. I would like to encourage you to NOT pack juice boxes/pouches for your child. This one item produces three pieces of trash. A reusable water bottle is the best option when packing your child’s lunch, we have a water bottle refilling station located in the multi-purpose room if your child should need additional water during the day.

Our bell schedule has changed slightly this school year. Our teachers will begin working in Professional Learning Communities (PLC). In order to accomplish this, Wood Ranch students will be dismissed one Thursday a month (these dates will be posted to the website shortly) at 12:55 .pm. Our regular school day will now be from 8:00 a.m. to 2:13 p.m. All recess and lunch schedules will remain the same.

Speaking of lunch, due to food price increases, the Child Nutrition Department has raised lunch prices slightly. Cost of a school purchased lunch will now be $3.

Studies have shown that parental involvement in education is one of the biggest predictors of student success. When your child comes home from school, ask them how their day was and check their backpack for any homework or communication from the school. It is also important to have good communication with your child’s teacher. On August 20 at 6:30 p.m. we will have our JK/TK-2nd Grade Back to School Night, and August 22 at 6:30 p.m. we will have our 3rd-5th grade Back to School Night. These nights are designed for parents only, please. At this meeting, you will find out the best ways to contact your child’s teacher and what the expectations will be for the year. Opportunities for volunteering in your child’s class will also be discussed on this night.

Here at Wood Ranch we have an amazing PTA that provides many opportunities for our students. Volunteers are needed for many positions and events. Please visit www.woodranchpta.org for more information.

JK/TK Orientation is August 13 at 9:30 a.m. Kindergarten Orientation is August 13 at 1:00 pm. Please bring your child so they can meet their teacher and visit the classroom. On August 29 and 30, school will be dismissed at 12:55 pm.

Sincerely,

Ms. Snowden
